Possession of 1 ounce to 1 pound is considered a misdemeanor with penalties of 1 year incarceration and a $2000 fine. If you are busted with more than a pound it is considered a felony and can carry a sentence of up to 5 years and a $10,000 fine.
Hash and concentrates are illegal here, as well as cultivation, distribution and sale, and commercial promotion, especially to a minor. Penalties for concentrates and extracts vary depending on the amount. If you are caught with less than an 8th it will see you paying a $2000 fine and spending a year in jail. If you have more than an 8th and less than an ounce you could face a 10-year sentence and a $25,000 fine. If you are convicted of possessing more than an ounce it can result in 20 years behind bars and a $50,000 fine. Remember that these are only the laws now and that these things will change soon and, for those who do not want to wait, there are so many qualifying conditions listed for medical access that pretty much anyone can register and carry up to 4 ounces of flowers and 4 ounces of concentrates!

However, as of January 1st, 2024, there will be cultivation allowed only for medical patients under the age of 18, those who live in a location without a dispensary, or those who are unable to safely get to a dispensary for a valid and registered reason.
This seems a bit of a funny bit of legislation in a place looking at full legalization, however, as with the rest of the country, we are just beginning our journey down weed road, so these guidelines may change. Medical marijuana became legal in 2000, but it was not until 2015 that Act 241 made it legal to gain access to it. Following that, it was not until 2017 that Senate Bill 321 established legislation for dispensaries, and the first medical dispensary opened shortly thereafter.
