How to Germinate Cannabis Seeds
Discover the easiest and most effective ways to germinate your cannabis seeds. Follow step-by-step tips to ensure healthy sprouts and a successful grow.
- It's essential to keep seeds in a dark environment during germination and to limit their exposure to light to under one minute while preparing for planting. Make sure you have all necessary materials ready before starting each step of the process.
- Our germination guarantee is easier to collect when you use the recommended method. This guarantee does not cover seeds germinated using alternative methods, such as soaking in water bottles, planting directly into soil, or any approach not outlined in our official guide.

Step 1: Start with a shopping experience online to purchase high-quality cannabis seeds from a reputable supplier such as Kind Seed Co. Also start gathering the equipment necessary to germinate with the Soaking and Paper Towel method.
You will need the following:
- Clean small glass
- Small plate
- Paper towel, (free of dyes & perfumes)
- Distilled or Bottled water

Step 2: Fill a clean glass with room-temperature distilled or bottled water with a pH level between 5.5 and 6.5. Place your cannabis seeds into the glass of water and let the seeds soak for 12-24 hours in total darkness. The ideal temperature for germination is between 71-78°F (21-25°C). Do not soak the seeds for more than 24 hours.

Step 3: After 12- 24 hours, fold several pieces of paper towel and place it onto the plate. Pour the entire contents of the cup (water and seeds) onto the paper towel and drain off the excess water. Position the seeds about an inch apart on the paper towel. Gently cover the seeds with another moist paper towel and place the plate in a warm dark area. Check the seeds regularly and do not let the paper towel dry out.

Step 4: Place the plate in a warm dark place. Be sure to check on the seeds every few hours to ensure the paper towel stays moist. Do not let the paper towel dry out. Allow up to 7 days for the seeds to germinate.
*Many issues arise from not rewetting your paper towl during the germination process.

Step 5: Once the tap root has reached approximately ½ inch in length (1-2 cm) carefully transfer the seeds into your growing medium. Plant root side down approximately ½ inch (1-2 cm) below the surface and gently cover. Water regularly using a spray bottle, ensuring the soil remains moist but not waterlogged until shoots emerge.

Step 6: After planting, it can take 1 to 2 weeks for the seedlings to emerge. Check your seeds daily to ensure the soil stays moist.
