Do spiders make you cringe? If they do, you are one of a billion souls that aren’t fans of the eight-legged creepy crawlies spotted darting across the kitchen floor. Many readers may immediately think that the Black Widow Feminized Seeds strain is a hybridized version of the infamous award-winning White Widow. This is where the water gets a little muddy, White Widow is considered to be a strain developed by the famous cannabis seed breeder Shantibaba, while working with Greenhouse Seeds out of Holland. There was a falling out between Shantibaba and Greenhouse Seeds, forcing him to depart the company to go at it alone. Readers may recognize the name Mr. Nice Guy seeds. Upon his departure, he took a couple strains with him, the Brazilian Sativa and South Indian Indica, essentially both parents of White Widow. Shantibaba wanted to create a distinction between his strain and the Greenhouse Seeds version so he renamed it Black Widow and brought it to market from there. Now this isn’t to say that Black Widow is White Widow in disguise but instead more like a sister or cousin. Both strains share the same parentage, but most cannabis insiders consider Black Widow to be the only true form of White Widow left available in seed.
A little research on the individual parents of Black Widow reveals a grand glimpse of why she is the way she is. Brazilian Sativa is an indigenous landrace that naturally grows in the temperate rainforests of South America. It is considered to be a pure sativa and it lives up to that reputation by producing a mind warping, racy head high and a soul liberating boost of euphoria. The more you smoke the higher you go with this rainforest greenery.
