Best dispensaries in Pittsburgh
This guide is general information for registered medical marijuana patients and caregivers in Pennsylvania. It is not legal or medical advice. Pennsylvania law changes, and dispensary hours and locations change often. Confirm any dispensary with the Department of Health before you visit, and follow your practitioner’s certification or recommendation.
Looking for the best dispensary in Pittsburgh? In Pennsylvania the honest starting point is a list of permitted medical marijuana dispensaries, because only registered patients and caregivers can buy, and only from those locations. This guide lists dispensaries in Pittsburgh that appear on the Department of Health’s official list, explains how the medical program works, and shows you how to check any location yourself.
We do not accept payment for placement, and we do not rank stores by quality. Kind Seed Co does not sell cannabis products. We sell seeds to adults 21 and older for lawful home growing where it is allowed.
What Pennsylvania law says for patients
Pennsylvania has a medical marijuana program only. Patients need a certification from a practitioner registered with the Department of Health and a valid state ID card, and caregivers need their own registration. Dispensaries sell forms the law allows, including dry leaf for vaporization, and smoking medical marijuana is not permitted. There are no licensed adult use stores in Pennsylvania.

Do not use cannabis in a car, even when parked, and never drive impaired. Taking cannabis across state lines is illegal under federal law, even between two states that allow it. Federal property, including national parks and airports, is also off limits.
How we built this list
We started with the official Pennsylvania Department of Health, Office of Medical Marijuana records, accessed October 29, 2026. We kept only dispensaries on the Department of Health list of permitted dispensaries with product, with a street address in Pittsburgh. From there we chose a mix of neighborhoods, so most visitors and residents have an option nearby. We did not use paid listings, online star ratings or reviews, and the reason each location is listed is practical, such as location or access, not a claim about quality.

Pittsburgh and Allegheny County have more permitted dispensaries than we list. The Department of Health list does not print permit numbers, so match the street address instead.

Getting around Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh dispensaries sit in the Strip District, Lawrenceville, Squirrel Hill, East Liberty and Shadyside, the North Side and the South Side, with more in the South Hills. Port Authority buses and the T light rail help, but hills and rivers make a car or rideshare easiest.
How to check a license yourself
The Department of Health publishes a list of permitted dispensaries that have product, with each location’s address. Search the list for the street address you plan to visit. If a location is not on the current list, it is not a permitted medical marijuana dispensary.

A license check takes about a minute and is the best protection you have. Unlicensed sellers do exist, and their products skip state testing and labeling rules.
What to bring and what to expect
- Your Pennsylvania medical marijuana ID card. Dispensaries check it before any sale.
- A government issued photo ID.
- Your certification details. Know what your current certification covers.
- Payment. Many dispensaries take cash or debit only. Ask before you go.
- Questions written down. A pharmacist or practitioner is on staff at Pennsylvania dispensaries, but this guide does not give medical advice.
Tips for a first visit
If you are new, visit on a weekday when stores are quieter, and let staff know it is your first time. Ask about product labels, packaging and storage, and keep everything sealed until you get home. Staff cannot give medical advice, so take any health questions to your practitioner. For a longer checklist, see our guide, read this before you shop at a marijuana dispensary.
Red flags to avoid
- A shop that is not on the official state list.
- Products with no state label, batch number or test information.
- “Gifting” setups where cannabis comes free with a sticker or T shirt.
- Sellers who do not check your patient card and ID.
- Delivery offers from anyone other than a licensed business.
Growing your own in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania does not allow home growing. Patients and caregivers must buy from permitted dispensaries.

If you do not qualify to grow in Pennsylvania, buy from licensed dispensaries instead. If you live in or move to a state that allows home growing, our Pennsylvania cannabis seeds guide and our guide to legal requirements for growing weed plants in your state explain what to check first.
