How to ask for cannabis plant help online and get real answers
Every grow forum has the same thread a hundred times a day. A blurry photo of a sad leaf and the words what is wrong with my plant. Those posts often get guesses, and guesses lead to fixes that make things worse. A post with the right details, on the other hand, can get an accurate answer in minutes. Asking well is a skill, and it takes about ten minutes to learn.
This guide walks you through what to gather before you post, how to write the post, where to ask and how to judge the answers you get.
Before you post, gather the basics
Helpers need to know your setup. Without it they are guessing. Write down the following before you open the forum.
| Detail | Example |
|---|---|
| Seed type and age | Feminized photoperiod, day 34 of veg |
| Medium | Peat based soil, coco, hydro |
| Container size | 3 gallon fabric pot |
| Light | 200 watt LED at 20 inches |
| Feeding | Product, strength and schedule |
| Water pH and PPM | pH 6.4 in, 6.1 runoff, 700 PPM |
| Environment | 78 F day, 65 F night, 55 percent humidity |
| Watering pattern | Every 3 days to 10 percent runoff |
| Recent changes | Moved light down two days ago |
If you do not measure pH or PPM yet, say so. That is useful information too. Our guide to pH for cannabis and PPM guide for cannabis explain how to start.
Take photos that answer the question
Shoot in neutral light with grow lights off or dimmed during the light period. Take one whole plant photo so helpers can see where the problem is. Then take close photos of the top and underside of an affected leaf. If the issue is on new growth or old growth, say which. Include a photo of the soil surface and the pot if you suspect watering problems.
Write a clear title
A title like day 34 veg, lower leaves yellowing from tips, coco, pH 6.1 runoff gets far more useful replies than help please. Put the stage, the symptom and the medium in the title.
Write the body in order
Start with your setup details. Then describe the symptom in plain words, including when it started and whether it is spreading. Then list what you have already tried and what happened. End with a clear question. Keep it short enough that someone will read it all.
Where to ask
Large general grow forums have the most eyes. Strain or medium specific groups give more expert answers. Some seed sellers offer help pages. Kind Seed Co has a Fix My Plant page with symptom guides you can check before posting. Local grower groups can help with climate and pest issues unique to your area.
Judging the answers
You will often get several different answers. Look for helpers who ask follow up questions, since that shows they are thinking instead of guessing. Prefer answers that explain why a symptom points to a cause. Be wary of anyone who jumps straight to selling a product. When answers disagree, test the simplest and safest fix first, usually checking pH, watering and light distance before changing nutrients.

Common mistakes when asking
Posting only a close up so no one knows where the leaf sits. Posting under purple light. Leaving out the medium. Changing five things at once after the first reply, so you cannot tell what worked. Deleting the thread once solved, which leaves the next grower with nothing.
Use a leaf symptom guide first
Many problems are common enough that a guide will point you in the right direction. Our leaf symptom guide to common deficiencies covers the patterns helpers look for. Even if you still post, you can describe the pattern with the right words.
Follow up
Reply to helpers. Post a photo a few days after a fix so people can see whether it worked. Mark the thread solved if the forum allows it. Forums run on goodwill, and the growers who follow up get better help the next time.
Protect your privacy
Strip location data from photos. Crop out windows, mail, faces and anything with your address. Use a username not tied to your real name. If your state limits plant counts, do not post photos that show more than you are allowed.
Be patient
Plants take days to show whether a change worked. Give a fix time before you ask again or try something new. Most problems in home grows come from roots, water and pH, and those take a few days to settle.

When to ask an expert offline
If you see fuzzy mold, a pest you cannot identify or a whole room going downhill fast, contact a local grow shop or an agricultural extension office. Extension offices often help with general plant pests and diseases.
A sample post you can copy
Title: Day 34 veg, lower leaves yellowing from tips, coco, runoff pH 6.1.
Body: Feminized photoperiod, 3 gallon fabric pot, coco with perlite. 200 watt LED at 20 inches, 18 hours on. Feeding a two part base at half strength every watering, about 700 PPM in. Water pH 6.0, runoff 6.1. Day temperature 78 F, night 65 F, humidity around 55 percent. Watering every day to about 10 percent runoff. Two days ago I lowered the light by four inches. Yellowing started on the lowest leaves three days ago and is moving up slowly. New growth looks fine. I have not changed nutrients yet. Photos attached, one whole plant and two leaf close ups under a daylight bulb. What should I check first?
A post like this answers most follow up questions before anyone asks them. Helpers can focus on the actual problem, and you will usually get a useful answer in the first few replies. Save it as a template and fill it in each time you need help.
Grow legally and responsibly
Home cultivation is only legal in some states, and each state sets its own plant limits, locking rules and rules about whether plants can be visible from a public place. You must be 21 or older to buy seeds from Kind Seed Co, and you should grow only where your state and city allow it. Check your state rules in our guide to the legal requirements for growing weed plants in your state before you plant. Federal treatment of cannabis seeds is also changing, so read our December 11 2026 seed rule explainer before you order. Keep plants and harvested flower locked away from children, pets and visitors, and never drive after using cannabis. This article is general information. It is not legal advice and it is not medical advice.
Frequently asked questions
What details should I include when asking for plant help?
Seed type, stage, medium, container, light, feeding, pH and PPM, environment, watering pattern and recent changes.
Why do my photos get ignored?
Purple grow light, blur or no whole plant shot. Use neutral light and include both a whole plant and close up.
How do I choose between conflicting answers?
Test the simplest safe fix first, such as checking pH and watering, and favor helpers who explain their reasoning.
Should I delete my thread once the problem is fixed?
No. Post the result so others with the same issue can learn from it.
Final thoughts
Give helpers your setup, clear photos and a specific question, then follow up. You will get better answers and help the next grower too.
