General Hydroponics Flora series for cannabis
The General Hydroponics Flora Series is a three part base nutrient system made up of FloraMicro, FloraGro and FloraBloom. Cannabis growers like it because you change the ratio of the three bottles as plants move from seedling to veg to flower, which gives you a lot of control from a simple lineup. It is commonly used in hydro and coco and can be used in soil as well. The key rules are to mix FloraMicro first, follow the maker’s feed chart at a gentle strength, and check pH and feed strength every time. This is a spec based review drawn from the maker’s published information. We did not run our own test grow, and Kind Seed Co is not affiliated with General Hydroponics. Pair a dialed in feed with our indoor seeds. This guide is for adults 21 and older growing where home cultivation is legal.
What is in the Flora Series?
| Bottle | Role in the system | When it is used |
|---|---|---|
| FloraMicro | Base with nitrogen, calcium and micronutrients | Every feed, all stages |
| FloraGro | Supports leafy, structural growth | Heavier in veg |
| FloraBloom | Supports flower development | Heavier in flowering |
| FloraMicro Hardwater | Alternate Micro for hard source water | Replaces FloraMicro when needed |
Each bottle is a concentrated liquid. You change how much of each one you use based on the plant’s stage. Early on, the mix leans toward FloraGro. In flowering, the mix shifts toward FloraBloom. FloraMicro stays in every feed as the foundation. Check the label on each bottle for its exact nutrient analysis.
What about hard water?
General Hydroponics offers a Hardwater version of FloraMicro for growers whose source water is already high in minerals. The maker suggests it when your water is above about 200 ppm total dissolved solids or about 70 ppm calcium. If you are not sure about your water, test it, or read our guide to irrigation water alkalinity for cannabis.
Why cannabis growers use the Flora Series
- Control. Three parts let you tune the feed for each stage.
- Simplicity. Three bottles is a short lineup compared with some full systems.
- Works across media. Many growers use it in hydro, coco and soil.
- Long track record. The system has been around for a long time, so there is a lot of grower experience to draw on.
The main downside is that three part systems take a little more measuring than one part feeds. You also need to understand ratios, or follow the feed chart closely.
How to mix the Flora Series
Mixing order matters. Concentrated nutrients can react with each other if they touch before they are diluted. General Hydroponics recommends this order:

- Fill your reservoir or bucket with water first.
- Add FloraMicro and stir well.
- Add FloraGro and stir well.
- Add FloraBloom and stir well.
- Add any supplements as directed by their labels.
- Check feed strength with a PPM or EC meter. Our PPM for cannabis guide explains target ranges.
- Adjust pH last. Use a calibrated meter. See pH meter calibration.
Never pour concentrates directly into each other.
Feeding by stage
General Hydroponics publishes a feed chart with suggested amounts by stage and grow style. Charts change over time, so use the current official version rather than numbers copied from forums.
General patterns that many cannabis growers follow:
- Seedlings and clones: a light mix. Young plants burn easily.
- Early veg: a mix that leans toward FloraGro.
- Late veg and transition: a more balanced mix as plants prepare to flower.
- Flowering: a mix that leans toward FloraBloom.
- Late flower: many growers taper or rinse before harvest. Read everything you need to know about flushing cannabis.
Start lighter than the chart
Many cannabis growers start at a fraction of the chart rate and work up. Feed charts are written for a range of plants, and cannabis can be sensitive, especially autoflowers and seedlings. Watch leaf tips for burn and your runoff numbers for buildup.
Flora Series in different grow media
| Medium | Notes |
|---|---|
| Hydro (DWC, drip, ebb and flow) | Mix fresh solution regularly and watch pH drift |
| Coco coir | Feed often with runoff, cal mag needs may vary |
| Soil | Use lighter strengths, soil holds some nutrients already |

Hydro
Flora Series is very common in hydro. Change your reservoir regularly so nutrients stay balanced. Our hydroponic cannabis feeding schedule walks through timing.
Coco
Coco has little nutrition on its own and can hold onto calcium and magnesium. Many coco growers feed with every watering and may add a cal mag supplement. Read coco coir as a grow medium for cannabis and cal mag for cannabis.
Soil
Soil and compost already supply some nutrients, so many growers use lighter Flora mixes. See our feeding schedule for cannabis in soil.
Reading your plants
A feed chart is a starting point, and your plants tell you whether it fits. Healthy leaves in veg are an even green with no burnt tips. Very dark leaves that claw downward can point to too much nitrogen, while pale new growth can mean the feed is too light or pH is off. In flowering, lower leaves will slowly yellow as the plant moves nutrients into its flowers, which is normal late in the run. If you see spotting, rust colored patches or curling, check pH and feed strength before changing the mix. Our guide to spotting common cannabis deficiencies by leaf symptoms can help you tell problems apart.

Keep a simple log of each feed with the date, the amount of each bottle, the PPM and the pH. Over a grow or two, you will build your own version of the chart that matches your water, your medium and your strains.
Common Flora Series mistakes
- Wrong mixing order. Adding Bloom before Micro can cause nutrients to react.
- Feeding too strong. Dark, clawing leaves and burnt tips often mean too much.
- Skipping pH. Even a perfect mix can lock out if pH drifts. See how to prevent and treat nutrient lockout.
- Old reservoir water. Let a reservoir sit too long and pH and balance can drift.
- Ignoring water quality. Very hard or soft source water changes what plants actually receive.
Is the Flora Series right for you?
Choose the Flora Series if you want a flexible base nutrient system, you grow in hydro or coco, and you are comfortable measuring three bottles. If you prefer fewer steps, a one or two part feed may suit you better. For a broader overview of how cannabis nutrients work, see cannabis nutrients, a crash course.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use the Flora Series in soil?
Yes, many growers do. Use lighter strengths because soil already holds some nutrients, and watch plants closely.
What order do I mix Flora Series nutrients?
Add FloraMicro first, then FloraGro, then FloraBloom, stirring well between each one. Never mix the concentrates together.
Do I need cal mag with the Flora Series?
It depends on your water and medium. Coco growers and growers using RO water often add cal mag. Test and watch your plants.
Should I follow the feed chart exactly?
Use the official chart as a guide and start lighter for cannabis, especially with seedlings and autoflowers. Increase gradually as plants show they can handle more.
Is FloraMicro Hardwater better?
It is designed for hard source water. If your water is already high in minerals, the Hardwater version may be the better choice.
