Kind LED grow light review for cannabis
Kind LED is a California based grow light company that makes LED bars, intracanopy bars, COB fixtures and panel lights for home and commercial growers. On paper, its strongest options for home cannabis tents are the slim X series bars, which can be mixed and matched to fit odd sized spaces, and the dual sided intracanopy bars that light the middle of the plant. A WiFi panel with app control rounds out the home lineup. Kind LED suits growers who like modular setups and want to add lights as their space grows. First, a quick note: despite the similar name, Kind LED is a separate company and is not connected to Kind Seed Co. Pair any light with dependable genetics from our indoor seeds. This guide is for adults 21 and older growing where home cultivation is legal.
This is a spec based review. It draws on Kind LED’s published product pages and common grower feedback. We did not run our own test grow, and Kind Seed Co is not affiliated with Kind LED. Always check current specs on the maker’s site.

X series light bars
The X40 and X80 are slim bars, about 2 and 4 feet long according to the maker, with model names that match their listed wattage. Kind LED offers veg and flower spectrum versions. The idea is modular: you hang as many bars as your space needs and space them evenly over the canopy.

This makes the X series flexible. A 2×4 tent might use a few 4 foot bars side by side. A narrow closet might use 2 foot bars. If you expand later, you add bars instead of replacing a whole fixture. Our guide to grow light bar spacing explains how close to place them.
The trade off is that you need to plan the layout and power for each bar, and you may need a frame or hangers to keep bars evenly spaced.
XD intracanopy bars
The XD75 and XD150 are dual sided bars meant to hang vertically between plants or under the canopy. They light lower branches that top lights often miss. In cannabis, lower flowers often stay small and airy because they sit in shade. Adding light at mid height can help those sites develop.

Intracanopy lighting is an add on, not a main light. It works best in taller plants or larger spaces where the top light cannot reach the lower canopy. Read under canopy lighting for cannabis for when it makes sense.
XC150 COB and K series panels
The XC150 is a COB, or chip on board, fixture that concentrates light from a few powerful chips. COB lights can penetrate deep into the canopy but tend to make a hotter center spot, so they need careful hanging.
The K3 XL is a traditional panel. The K5 WiFi adds app control through Kind LED’s Kind Command Center, which lets you schedule and dim the light from your phone. For growers who want automation, that can replace a separate timer. See smart grow light controllers and grow light timers for other options.
Strengths
- Modular bars let you build a layout that fits your space.
- Intracanopy option for lighting the lower plant.
- Spectrum choices for veg and flower bars.
- App control on the WiFi panel.
- Moisture resistance and safety listings on many models, per the maker.
Limitations
- Planning required. Modular bars need more layout work than a single fixture.
- Mixed lineup. Bars, COBs and panels behave very differently, so compare carefully.
- Output figures vary by model. We do not quote output or efficiency here. Check each spec sheet.
- Name confusion. The brand name is similar to ours, but the companies are not connected.
Which Kind LED setup fits your grow?
| Your space | Setup to consider | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Small closet or 2×2 | A few X40 bars | Compact and modular |
| 2×4 tent | X80 bars side by side | Bars match the long shape |
| 4×4 tent | X80 bars or a K series panel | Bars for evenness, panel for simplicity |
| Tall plants or big canopy | Add XD intracanopy bars | Lights lower branches |
| Want app control | K5 WiFi | Schedules and dimming from your phone |
Running Kind LED lights for cannabis
- Seedlings: use the veg spectrum or dim low and hang high. See cannabis seedling light schedule.
- Veg: many growers run 18 hours of light per day. Read the cannabis light cycle.
- Flower: switch photoperiods to 12 hours of light and add flower spectrum bars if your setup uses both. Increase intensity gradually. See when to increase light intensity in flowering.
- Add intracanopy bars mid flower if lower sites are shaded.
- Watch distance and heat. See LED light distance for cannabis and grow light heat management.
- Map your light. A PPFD map shows whether your bar layout is even.

Planning a bar layout
Before you buy bars, sketch your space from above. Measure the inside width and depth, then decide which direction the bars will run. In a long tent, bars usually run across the short side so light spreads along the full length. Keep a little more space between bars in the center and a little less near the edges, since the middle of a tent tends to get light from several bars at once while the edges get less.
Next, plan your power. Each bar needs a connection, so count outlets and cords, and keep everything off the floor where water could reach it. Use hangers or a frame that keeps all bars at the same height. Uneven bars create uneven light, which shows up as some plants racing ahead of others.
Finally, think about the future. If you plan to move to a larger tent, buy a layout that can grow with you. Adding two more bars is often easier than replacing a single fixture.
Bars vs boards for home growers
Bar lights spread diodes across the canopy, which tends to give more even light and lets heat escape between bars. Boards and panels are simpler to hang. If you are choosing between a Kind LED bar setup and a single board from another brand, read quantum board vs bar LED first.
Is Kind LED worth a look?
If you like modular setups, plan to expand or want intracanopy lighting, Kind LED’s lineup is worth comparing on paper. If you want one simple fixture for one tent, a single board or panel may be easier. Either way, check listed coverage, warranty and safety ratings for the exact model.
